Habitat and Range
These uncommon, beautiful gray leopards live in the mountains of Central Asia. Snow Leopards are found at distances between 9,800 and 17,000 feet in the high, rugged mountains of Central Asia. Their range spans from Afghanistan to Kazakhstan and Russia in the north to India and China in the east. China contains about 60% of Snow Leopards habitat.
Predators and Enemies
The Snow Leopard needs trees to get away from its enemies such as wolves, tigers, and cheetahs. The Snow Leopard gets away from the cheetah by camouflage and by leaping because the Snow Leopard is very athletic. The Snow Leopard can blend in by making it look like a rock with spots on the ground. The Snow Leopard climbs trees to also get away from its predators and enemies.
Defense Mechanisms
Snow Leopards do not usually use their defense for fighting off predators because it is basically the ruler of its area. If it did use them it would hiss, growl, fluff up their fur, bare their teeth, or put their ears back and attack just like a normal pet cat would do. If in a case where its prey is coming after them with their horns, then the Snow Leopards would run away and come back and try again later. The Snow Leopard can also blend in to its surroundings. They can climb trees to escape animals that may injure them.
Threats
Some of the reasons why they are endangered are because of poaching, loss of habitat, mining and lack of resources. People also kill the animal for their fur. People tear down forests for trees which makes it hard for Snow Leopards to find a habitat. People mine today looking for coal to make energy for our shelters. They dig holes in the ground making it hard to find space without people living there. People take resources that are important for the snow leopard's survival.
